Feature Release To Help Billers Communicate During The Pandemic

Dr. Harvey Fineberg, chairman of a committee with the National Academy of Sciences wrote in a letter that the virus can be spread through normal talking and breathing. “While the current [coronavirus] specific research is limited, the results of available studies are consistent with aerosolization of virus from normal breathing,” he wrote in his letter. This makes social distancing and shelter in place recommendations even more important, especially when considering a visit to your doctor – those on the frontlines of the pandemic.

Doctors and nurses play a special role in the fight against COVID-19. They are working to improve the health of those who contract the virus, while also trying to provide a level of care for patients who have other ailments or who are just concerned and are looking for guidance. The CDC recommends in their ‘Steps Healthcare Facilities Can Take Now to Prepare for Coronavirus Disease 2019,’ for practices to “Consider the strategies to prevent patients who can be cared for at home from coming to your facility potentially exposing themselves or others to germs, by:

  • Using your telephone system to deliver messages to incoming callers about when to seek medical care at your facility, when to seek emergency care, and where to go for information about caring for a person with COVID at home.”
